What is MyDigital ID and how MyDigital ID Malaysia register in 2026? MyDigital ID Malaysia is the national digital identity system run by My Digital ID Sdn Bhd (its technology was developed by MIMOS), serving as a secure “Single Sign-On” (SSO) key for essential government apps like MyJPJ, MyTax (LHDN), and PADU. It uses EAL3+ security standards and does not store your biometric data centrally. To register:

  1. Download the app.
  2. Scan your MyKad and perform e-KYC facial recognition.
  3. If online verification fails (common for older ICs), visit a MyDigital ID Kiosk listed on the official locator at digital-id.my/support.
  4. Once verified, it binds to your phone, preventing remote identity theft.

Correction — updated 23 September 2026

This guide previously listed kiosk locations that are not on the official kiosk locator, described a waiting-period workaround for lost phones and a password reset that the official FAQ does not offer, and said you needed MyDigital ID to get the RON95 petrol subsidy.

The official sources say otherwise. Find kiosks on the official locator at digital-id.my/support. If your phone is lost, cancel your ID with “Batal Digital ID” in the app on any phone that has it, or at a kiosk, then register again. Passwords cannot be recovered, so a forgotten one also means cancelling and re-registering. BUDI95 checks your MyKad at the pump; MyDigital ID is only needed to view your BUDI95 transaction history. We also updated MyJPJ (MyDigital ID has been its only login since 1 May 2026, MyPR holders excepted) and who runs MyDigital ID (My Digital ID Sdn Bhd).

Updated 23 September 2026 against official sources (see the notes marked in the article).

Walaoeh! Another App to download? 😩 I know, I know. You have MySejahtera, MyJPJ, MyTax, PADU, Touch ‘n Go… your phone storage is crying. Now the government says: “Boss, you must register MyDigital ID. If not, later cannot renew Road Tax.”

Panic mode on. 🚨 Is this another “Putrajaya Experiment”? Will my data leak to the Dark Web and get sold for RM 10? Why is the registration process so “Leceh” (troublesome) for some people?

Relax. In 2026, MyDigital ID is basically the “Master Key” to your life in Malaysia. Imagine logging into MyJPJ to check Road Tax, MyTax to file LHDN, the BUDI95 portal for your petrol-subsidy records, and even checking your STR Status… all with ONE password. No more clicking “Forgot Password” 10 times a year.

In this Ultimate 3000-word Guide, we break down MyDigital ID Malaysia register steps, dive deep into the “Is MyDigital ID safe” debate (with technical facts), and teach you exactly what to do if you change your phone (Warning: This part is tricky!).

The Walaoeh Verdict: You cannot run from it. Just register now while the servers are stable. Don’t be the “Last Minute Gang” when LHDN deadline comes in April.

Part 1: Is MyDigital ID Safe? (The #1 Fear)

“Boss, give my face and IC to government app… safe or not?” We all remember the data leak rumors. We all got those scam calls.

However, MyDigital ID is built differently. It is run by My Digital ID Sdn Bhd, a government agency set up on 15 January 2024 under the supervision of the National Security Council (MKN, Prime Minister’s Department) and NACSA (National Cyber Security Agency). The technology behind it was developed by MIMOS Berhad (Malaysia’s National Applied R&D Centre) from 2016 (official site).

1. It Does NOT Store Your Data

This is the most important part. MyDigital ID is just a Verifier (like a Bouncer at a club).

  • When you login to LHDN, MyDigital ID just tells LHDN: “Yes, this is Ali.”
  • It does NOT pass your bank details, address, or medical history.
  • It does NOT replace your physical MyKad chip.

2. Certification Level (EAL3+)

It meets the Common Criteria EAL3+ (Evaluation Assurance Level 3+) security standard.

  • What is that? It is the same banking-grade security used by international financial institutions.
  • It uses PKI (Public Key Infrastructure). Your phone holds the “Private Key”, and the server holds the “Public Key”. Without your phone, the key doesn’t work.

3. The “Phone Binding” Feature

Your Digital ID is tied to ONE device. Even if a hacker steals your password, they cannot login from their phone because the ID is chemically bonded to your phone’s hardware ID.

  • Pros: Super secure.
  • Cons: If you change phone, it’s a hassle (we cover this in Part 5).

Part 2: How to Register MyDigital ID (Step-by-Step)

There are two ways. The Online Way (easy) and the Kiosk Way (if your camera sucks or IC is old).

Method A: Online Registration (The “Do at Home” Way)

Prerequisite: A smartphone with NFC (optional but faster) and a decent camera.

  1. Download App: Search “MyDigital ID” on Google Play / App Store.
  2. Enter Details: Key in your Name and IC Number.
  3. Capture ID: Take a photo of your MyKad (Front and Back).
    • Walaoeh Tip: Put it on a dark table (matte surface). Avoid glare from ceiling lights. If the hologram reflects too much light, the AI will reject it.
  4. Selfie (e-KYC): The app will ask you to blink, smile, or turn your head. This is to prove you are a living human (Liveness Detection).
  5. Create Password: Set a strong password (alphanumeric).
  6. Done! You can now use the app to scan QR codes for login.

Method B: MyDigital ID Kiosk Location (If Online Fails)

If your MyKad is faded (chip worn out) or your face doesn’t match the IC photo (you got handsome/pretty already, or gained weight), the app will reject you with “Verification Failed”. You must go to a Kiosk.

Where to find Kiosks in 2026?

  • JPN Branches: Most Jabatan Pendaftaran Negara offices have a dedicated counter.
  • Pos Malaysia: Selected post offices.
  • Official locator: the current list of kiosks is on the official locator at digital-id.my/support.

The Kiosk Process:

  1. Insert MyKad into the card reader.
  2. Place thumb on the fingerprint scanner. (Biometric check against JPN database).
  3. System verifies you instantly.
  4. Scan the QR code on the Kiosk screen using your phone App to “Bind” the device.
  5. Success!

Part 3: MyDigital ID Login JPJ & LHDN (How to Use)

Okay, registered already. How to use? It works exactly like “WhatsApp Web” login. It uses a QR Code system.

Scenario 1: Logging into MyJPJ (Phone App)

  1. Open MyJPJ App.
  2. Choose “MyDigital ID” on the login screen. Since 1 May 2026 it is MyJPJ’s only login (MyPR holders excepted), per JPJ’s media statement.
  3. The MyDigital ID app will pop up automatically (App-to-App switching).
  4. Enter your PIN or use FaceID.
  5. Boom. You are in. No need to remember your JPJ password (which is usually Abc@12345 that you always forget).
  6. Now you can check your Driving License expiry.

Scenario 2: Logging into MyTax LHDN (Desktop)

  1. Go to MyTax website on your laptop.
  2. Select “MyDigital ID” as login option.
  3. A QR Code appears on the laptop screen.
  4. Open MyDigital ID app on your phone -> Click “Scan QR”.
  5. Scan the laptop screen.
  6. Confirm on phone.
  7. Laptop logs in automatically.

Part 4: Troubleshooting Common Errors (The “Sakit Hati” List)

Nothing government-made is perfect. Here are the common “Kantoi” moments and how to fix them.

Error 1: “Face Not Matched” / “Verification Failed”

  • Reason: Your selfie lighting is bad, or your IC photo is too old (12 years old vs 30 years old face).
  • Fix: Don’t keep trying. After 3-5 fails, it might lock. Go straight to a MyDigital ID Kiosk. Fingerprint verification (Biometric) never lies.

Error 2: “Device Not Supported” / “Device Rooted”

  • Reason: You are using a very old phone (Android 8 or below) or a “Rooted/Jailbroken” phone. MyDigital ID security protocol blocks compromised devices to prevent key theft.
  • Fix:
  • Un-root your phone.
  • Disable “Developer Options” in Android settings.
  • If still cannot, you need a newer phone. Security apps won’t run on insecure OS.

Error 3: “Transaction Expired”

  • Reason: You took too long to scan the QR code.
  • Fix: Refresh the webpage to generate a new QR code.

Part 5: “I Changed My Phone / Lost My Phone”

This is the most critical part. Because the ID is bound to the device, you cannot just “login” on a new iPhone 17 like you do with Facebook.

The Fix (Revocation):

  1. Scenario A: You still have the old phone.
    • Open MyDigital ID on old phone.
    • Go to Settings -> “Deregister Device”.
    • Now register on the new phone.
  2. Scenario B: Old phone is lost / Format / Sold.
    • You don’t need the old phone to cancel your ID.
    • Option 1: Open MyDigital ID on any phone that has the app and choose “Batal Digital ID” from the menu.
    • Option 2: Visit a Kiosk and cancel it there.
    • Then register again on your new phone (official FAQ: digital-id.my/support).

Walaoeh Advice: Before you sell your phone at Lowyat, please deregister your MyDigital ID first!

Part 6: Why Do You Need It? (Where It Gets Used)

“Can I just ignore this?” In 2026, the answer is No. The ecosystem is closing in.

1. Petrol Subsidy (BUDI95) RON95 petrol is now subsidised through BUDI95, and the pump checks your MyKad (matched against your driving licence) — you don’t need MyDigital ID to get the subsidy. You only need MyDigital ID to log in to the BUDI95 portal and view your transaction history (MOF, 29 September 2025).

2. Scams & Identity Theft With AI Deepfakes rising, banks and JPN need a way to prove “You are You”. MyDigital ID prevents someone from stealing your IC copy and opening a bank account in your name, because they won’t have your bound phone.

3. Single Sign-On (SSO) Eventually, you won’t need to remember passwords for EPF, LHDN, JPJ, Immigration (Passport), or even MyKad Replacement. One scan does it all.

Summary: Just Do It, Don’t Be Lazy

MyDigital ID Malaysia register process might be “Leceh” (especially if you need to find a Kiosk), but it is a One-Time Pain.

Walaoeh Checklist:

  1. Download App today.
  2. Try Online Registration first.
  3. Failed? Plan a trip to the nearest Kiosk this weekend (check the official locator first).
  4. Done. Now you can laugh at your friends who are struggling to reset their MyJPJ password.

Don’t wait until the deadline. When 20 million Malaysians try to register on the same day, the server confirm crash. Be Kiasu. Do it now.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

  1. Is MyDigital ID safe to use in 2026?

Yes, Is MyDigital ID safe? It is run by My Digital ID Sdn Bhd (technology developed by MIMOS) and complies with the Common Criteria EAL3+ international security standard. It utilizes PKI (Public Key Infrastructure) technology. Crucially, it does not store your personal biometric data in a central cloud; it only validates your identity against JPN’s database during the login process, making it safer than traditional password systems.

  2. How do I find a MyDigital ID kiosk location?

You can find a MyDigital ID kiosk location on the official locator at digital-id.my/support, which lists JPN branches, Pos Malaysia post offices and other sites. These kiosks are essential if online facial verification fails.

  3. What should I do if I have a MyDigital ID forgot password issue?

If you face the MyDigital ID forgot password issue, the official FAQ says a password cannot be recovered. You can try a few more times; if you still can’t remember it, cancel your MyDigital ID (“Batal Digital ID” in the app, or at a kiosk) and register again.

  4. Can I use MyDigital ID login JPJ without a password?

Yes. Once you link your account, MyDigital ID login JPJ allows you to access the MyJPJ app using just your fingerprint or FaceID on your phone. This bypasses the need to type in your alphanumeric password every time, which is faster and more secure.

  5. How do I handle a change phone MyDigital ID scenario?

If you change phone, your MyDigital ID has to be cancelled and registered again. Cancel it with “Batal Digital ID” in the app menu on any phone that has the app (you don’t need the old phone), or at a MyDigital ID kiosk, then register on the new device.
