There is no 10-year discount. JPJ lists the Class D renewal fee at RM30 a year, so 10 years costs RM300, not RM270, and JPJ’s renewal page mentions no multi-year discount (JPJ CDL renewal page, JPJ fee table).

The Class B row was priced like Class D. JPJ charges citizens RM20 a year for Class B2, B and C alike (JPJ fee table).

Non-citizens are not limited to yearly renewal: JPJ lets MyKAS and passport holders renew for 1 to 5 years (JPJ CDL renewal page).

JPJ’s renewal page lists one colour photo (white background, 25mm x 32mm) among the documents needed. Our FAQ used to say you usually don’t need one.

Each point above was re-checked against the official source linked in it on 25 September 2026. Rules and fees change; confirm with the agency before you act.

Renew Driving License Malaysia 2026 is the most panic-inducing phrase when you see a police roadblock ahead. Alamak, did I renew it last month or last year?

We have all been there. You hand over your MyKad to the Abang Polis, he scans it, and gives you that look. “Encik, lesen dah mati 3 bulan ni.” Kantoi. RM 300 fly away just like that.

Quick Answer: In 2026, you don’t need to queue at the counter. You can use the MyJPJ App to renew instantly.

  • Standard Price: RM 30 per year (Car – Class D).
  • 10 Years in One Go: Renew for 10 Years one-shot and pay RM 300 (RM 30 x 10). JPJ lists no multi-year discount.
  • Digital vs Physical: By default, you get a Digital License (e-LMM). If you want the plastic card to drive in Thailand/Singapore, you must request it at a JPJ branch (and pay extra).

In this guide, we break down the Renew Driving License Malaysia 2026 methods, whether renewing for up to 10 years in one go makes sense, and why going to Pos Malaysia might still be the best choice for uncles.

Renewing for 10 Years: Is It Worth It?

For Renew Driving License Malaysia 2026, JPJ lets Malaysian citizens and permanent residents renew for anywhere from 1 to 10 years at a time (non-citizens: 1 to 5 years). The yearly fee is the same whichever period you pick.

How many years you buy here also decides whether an International Driving Permit is even possible later — JPJ will not issue one unless the Competent Driving Licence still has more than 1 year left on it, covered in our International Driving Permit guide.

The Math (Class D Car License)

  • Renew 1 Year: RM 30.00
  • Renew 5 Years: RM 150.00
  • Renew 10 Years: RM 300.00 (RM 30 a year, no discount).

Walaoeh Verdict: There is no discount, so what a 10-year renewal really buys you is not having to remember. Is it worth paying RM 300 today?

  • YES: If you are young, healthy, and hate queuing.
  • NO: If you plan to leave Malaysia or… touch wood… might not be driving in 10 years.

Method A: MyJPJ App Renewal (The “Gen-Z” Way)

The fastest way to settle your Renew Driving License Malaysia 2026 is via the phone. No need to smell other people’s sweat at the counter.

How to do it:

  1. Download MyJPJ app (Apple/Android).
  2. Login using MyDigital ID (Yes, you need this now). If you haven’t registered, see our guide: 👉 MyDigital ID Malaysia 2026.
  3. Click “Profile” -> “Competent Driving License (CDL)”.
  4. Click “Renew”.
  5. Select Period (1 to 10 Years).
  6. Pay via FPX/Card.
  7. Done! Your digital license appears instantly.

The Catch (Digital vs Physical)

The app gives you an e-LMM (Digital License).

  • Driving in Malaysia: Valid. Police can scan the QR.
  • Driving in Thailand/Singapore: NOT VALID. Their police want to see the Plastic Card. If you show them your phone, they might think you are showing a screenshot.
  • Solution: You must go to a JPJ Kiosk/Counter to print the physical card (Fee: ~RM 20).

Method B: Pos Malaysia License Renewal (The “Old School” Way)

For those who don’t trust apps or forgot their password, Pos Malaysia is the steady choice.

  • Location: Any Post Office nationwide.
  • Service Fee: RM 2.00 – RM 5.00 extra per transaction.
  • What you get: Usually, they issue a Renewal Slip (Computer Paper).
  • Warning: Many Post Offices run out of “Plastic Card” stock. You might walk away with just the paper slip. It is ugly, but it works.

If you are already at the Post Office, you might as well renew your road tax too. Don’t let your car be illegal! Check 👉 Road Tax Malaysia 2026.

Special Cases: “L” and “P” Plates

The Renew Driving License Malaysia 2026 rules are different for newbies. How the KEJARA demerit-point system works for P and L license holders is covered in a separate guide.

1. P License (Probationary)

  • Cannot Renew. You must upgrade to CDL (Competent Driving License) within 1 year after the 2-year probation ends.
  • If you miss the 1-year grace period, you have to retake the whole exam (Undang, KPP, Practical). Mati lah.

2. L License (Learner)

  • Must renew every 3 or 6 months.
  • Max validity is 2 years. If you don’t pass your test by then, your L license dies forever.

For official info, always refer to the 🔗 JPJ Official Portal.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

  1. Can I renew if my license expired 3 years ago?

NO. If your CDL has expired for more than 3 years, it is “dead”. You must submit an appeal (e-Rayuan) to JPJ. In most cases, you have to resit the Practical Test (Road Test). Padan muka.

  2. Do I need to bring a photo for Pos Malaysia License Renewal?

Bring one. JPJ’s renewal page lists one colour photo (white background, 25mm x 32mm) among the documents needed for renewal.

  3. Can I renew online without MyDigital ID?

In 2026, it is getting harder. The government is forcing everyone to use MyDigital ID for SSO (Single Sign-On). Just register it. It’s safer.

  4. Is the physical card mandatory in Malaysia?

Technically, No. Section 20 of the Road Transport Act was amended. The digital e-LMM is valid. But if your phone runs out of battery during a roadblock… good luck explaining to the Abang Polis.
